Project Lonk March Update

FIGURING OUT WHAT TO DO, WHEN YOU HAVE YARN RIGHT ON YOUR DOORSTEP!

One of the reasons I established Whitehall Studio in 2014 was due to a growing disillusionment with the fashion industry, and fast fashion in particular.  Since then, the more I have read (combined with the growing public awareness surrounding the damage on the environment from the fashion industry) It has been an ambition of mine to create a fully circular knitted product that is 100% Yorkshire.

Project Lonk is the beginning of trying to fulfill that ambition.

Follow along as I use this locally sourced Lonk wool to knit garments, designed specifically to suit this type of yarn. Check out my first Project Lonk blog where you can meet the farmers at @wild_woolyfarm and learn more about Project Lonk now known as The Wool Circle.

The Wool Circle team has been very busy planning ways to expand our offering so that there is more yarn being produced and less wool being wasted. Currently, we are working to organize local sheep farmers’ involvement with our mission. With the help of the Wool Board, we hope to be able to double if not triple the next round of yarn that will be available to purchase. AND with the help of Saz from mackaydesigns_knit we will be able to offer this yarn in some gorgeous colourways reflecting the moors the sheep graze on.

Studio Update-

The Wool Circle book “A Yorkshire Yarn” is coming along and soon we will be able to start sharing finished pictures of the patterns. We have also sent out some yarn to some creative people in the fibre arts to see what they think of it. So far the feedback has been amazing. Do you work in the fibre arts? Get in touch with us!
